There are certain rhythms in the school year…courses come to an end, semesters come to an end, students come to the end of their time in high school.
In a few years when I pass by this young man, I probably won’t recognize him. The rhythms of his life will have changed again.

Without having seen an example of this, I’ll just select a photo from the ones I took this weekend that, to me, is dominated by the dark tones of the sky.
We arrived in Ravenna about 3:00 and headed out on a quick snowshoe excursion around the new property of our friends.
Darkness comes early in the winter months.

Our friend, John, enjoys feeding and watching the birds outside the window of his new farmhouse.
There were many chickadees and finches today, along with three handsome blue jays.
John also enjoys consulting his bird book edited by…Dr. Bird! John knows Dr. Bird from McGill and used to play hockey with him.
This photograph invokes a special memory for me. My grandmother, Opal, enjoyed feeding and watching the birds outside her side door on Fleet Street in London. We both enjoy watching the birds now in the inner courtyard at the nursing home where she lives. Despite her macular degeneration, she can still see some movement of the birds.

Our weekend away to Ravenna with friends at their new farmhouse brought us into the outdoors using snowshoes and poles and my iPhone camera.
The lines in this photograph seem to converge, although I believe, in reality, that the row of trees was parallel. A visual trick?
